Frequently Asked Questions
Boxer Pedigree Archive is an “open database” to collect as many Boxer pedigrees and data as possible to give a good view of the breed, show developments in the breed, and help breeders to plan their litters and owners to discover the ancestors of their beloved pets. The database also serves as a place for breeders and owners to create a “web page” for their dogs free-of-charge.
Since this database consists entirely of information provided by end users, the providers of this website, Acclaimed Web Development & Online Marketing and Crystal Nolen assume no liability for the accuracy, meaning or completeness of any of the information entered in the database. Users of the Boxer Pedigree Archive agree to use information in the database at their own risk.
It is recommended that everyone within the Boxer community use the database and regularly check their listings for accuracy. You are welcome to add information on dogs that are missing from the database, or to correct errors if you find them. The value of this database depends entirely on the quality of user input.
To start working with Boxer Pedigree Archive, browse the content offered. The important data on Boxer Pedigree Archive is data about our Boxers. You can see the pedigree and detail information for each dog, but you can also find information about the owners or the breeders of the dogs. You can start by either:
- exploring the newest entries and latest updates on the Newest Entries page or
- by using our search form from the Search Dogs page to look for specific dogs or
- by browsing with the Browse Dogs page for all dogs available in our database
Go to the Login page and click onto "Create an Account".
Boxer Pedigree Archive is focused on dogs, their pedigrees and detail information. To be able to get in touch with breeders or owners of dogs, we also offer some management of breeders and owners.
For all users (including anonymous users) we offer the possibilities:
- to browse dogs (by name, kennel or land of birth)
- to browse persons (by name or land)
- to search for dogs by registered name (so-called simple search - available in the top right corner on each screen)
- to do an advanced search allowing to specify particular criteria for your query
If you are only interested in ancient ancestors, you would specify "Year of Birth" with "before 1900".
If you are interested in direct successors of the dog "Pencloe Dutch Gold" you would choose his name from the list of sires available and perform your query.
If you are interested in the litter of a particular mating, you would specify both parents in the according sire and dam list boxes. For registered users we also offer the ability to:
- to add new dogs
- to update dogs
- to add new persons (breeders or owners)
- to update persons
- to modify profile data
There's no kennel management provided by Boxer Pedigree Archive. The kennel information is only stored as a simple value in a dog's record. On the dog's update page you can choose from the existing list of kennels (in the text field type the first letters and you will receive a list to choose from - be patient this may take a while depending on bandwidth and database size) or type in a new kennel name.
Adding a new (not yet stored in Boxer Pedigree Archive) sire or dam to a particular dog from the update screen is not possible; there you can only choose from existing sires and dams. Go to the details page of your dog instead and click onto the "Add Dog" links in the dog’s pedigree.
Also note, that for choosing an existing sire or dam you have to enter the first three letters of the sire's or dam's registered name whereupon you will receive all sires/dams in the database starting with these letters. Please be aware that retrieving these lists can take some time depending on bandwidth and database size.
To continue adding a dog, see our Help page.
How do I enter my dog's registered name on their page?
Please enter the registered name of the dog you wish to add, WITHOUT TITLES (e.g. "Bridgewood's B. K. Kahuna" or "Telstar's Good Time Charlie").
To continue adding a dog, see our Help page.
How do I enter my dog's titles on their page?
Enter all of the dog’s titles in the Titles field. We recommend putting a comma and a space between each title (e.g. Am Champion, CD, CGC, JH). The titles will show up in red above the dog's name is pedigrees. DO NOT put the dog's titles in the registered name field. It can cause dog duplication issues and result in the dog not being in the right place in the database when people try to browse for it.
To see all the steps involved in adding a dog, see our Help page.
Why can't I delete a dog/person?
Due to security reasons the deletion of a whole record (dog or person) is only allowed to Boxer Pedigree Archive administrators. For this reason, please always check the list of available dogs/persons presented to you during the add-process, before adding a new dog/person. If you happen to create an incorrect or duplicate dog/person entry or have found a record you would like to delete, please contact the Boxer Pedigree Archive Administrator.
What about kennels?
There's no kennel management provided by Boxer Pedigree Archive. The kennel information is only stored as simple value in a dog's record. On the dog's update page you can choose from the existing list of kennels (in the textfield type the first letters and you will receive a list to choose from - be patient this may take a while depending on bandwidth and database size) or type in a new kennel name.
How to add sire or dam for a dog?
Adding the sire or dam to a dog is best done by using the pedigree's "Add Dog"-links on the details page. If you know, that your dog's father or mother is already available in the database you could also use the input fields on the update-page. There you would have to enter the first three letters of the sire's or dam's registered name and you will receive all sires/dams in the database starting with these letters. Please be aware that retrieving this list may last long depending on bandwidth and database size. We therefore encourage you to use the "Add Dog"-links on the pedigree of your particular dog.
